Young Love

Scripture

“For your husband is your Maker, Whose name is the LORD of hosts; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, Who is called the God of all the earth.
(Isaiah 54:5 NASB)

Observation

Over and over again the theme of marriage is seen in the Bible. The whole story starts with a couple in the Garden of Eden -- a married couple. It also begins with the covenant of a Holy God who wants to have a relationship of fidelity between he and his people. In the middle of the Bible we find the love story in the Song of Solomon, and at the end we find the marriage supper of the lamb. In the intimacy of our relationship with God -- male and female alike -- are becoming the Bride of Christ. Here the wording is very clear -- God, our maker, is also our husband. Who is he? He is the LORD! And he is also our Redeemer -- the one who will save us.

Application

This morning I'm heading over to the wedding of my niece. Last evening we enjoyed the rehearsal and dinner and a time of hearing their "story." This is a young couple in love. They are not only excited about the wedding today, but about the marriage that will last a lifetime! They love to be together. They love to walk, to talk, to simply hang out with one another.

We are challenged to understand that our relationship with our Maker, our Creator is also one of love. He loves us and wants us to be his bride. Today my niece will be beautifully adorned as she walks down the aisle at the church. Each and every one of us are beautiful in such a way to the LORD. But do we really understand that? Do we understand the intimacy of relationship which he desires from each and every single one of us. This is not a shallow, once a week, maybe twice a month, go to church relationship. Instead, this is an every day, I can't wait to hang out with you, kind of relationship. This is, a relationship where I have to pick up the phone and share all the exciting (and even boring) moments of the day with the one that I love. That is what God wants with each and every one of us.

Young love is fun. Our relationship to God should be too! He wants to be our husband. Are we preparing to be his bride?

Prayer

Lord, thank you for your incredible love for us. Amen.

Comments

  1. So enjoyed reconnecting with you this last weekend. The sermon you preached sunday was challenging, insightful and easy to understand; however, the words I heard and hear over and over again were when you first stepped into the pulpit, "I am in love with Jesus!" what a great testimony and NUDGE!!
