The Reach of God's Power
Scripture
Psalms 76:10-12
Human wrath serves only to praise you,
when you bind the last bit of [your] wrath around you.
11 Make vows to the Lord your God, and perform them;
let all who are around him bring gifts
to the one who is awesome,
12 who cuts off the spirit of princes,
who inspires fear in the kings of the earth.
Observation
When humans begin to trust in their own power and reach, God has an amazing way of putting them in their place. Even the most vile of humans end up bowing at the knee of God. I think of the incredible wrath of people like Hitler and Stalin. These men were truly evil and yet at the end of the day, they lost...and they lost miserably. I think of the beautiful Church of Christ the Saviour which Stalin destroyed and yet the very ground fought back and would not hold the foundation for Stalin's palace of communism. The action of Stalin, wanting to express his own wrath resulted in God being glorified. Hitler committed a cowardly act of suicide after all of his horrific acts. God alone is awesome and powerful and when the world's authorities try to usurp him, they will lose!
Application
Humanity tends to become prideful within a very short period of time. Instead of remembering that we are instruments of God on high, we tend to take credit for our skills and abilities. All that we have and all that we can accomplish ONLY comes from him, and is intended to give him glory. When we take the glory for ourselves, we are literally stealing it from God.
We must walk humbly before God on a daily basis. We must spend time with God on a daily basis. We must allow God to give us direction for the ways in which he wants us to fulfill his calling in us on a daily basis. If we do not do this, we will become arrogant and proud. The arrogance and pride, even or world leaders, may last for a period of time, but ultimately God's reach can even come to them, and they will be humbled...and the One deserving the glory will be glorified.
Prayer
Lord, may you be glorified in my life today and everyday. Amen.
