Who or What are you wearing?

Scripture

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.
(Romans 13:14 NASB)

Observation

This is such a simple statement made by Paul, and yet it is so profound. We are to put on Christ, wearing him, day in and day out, allowing him to control our lives.

Application

Probably it's more of a girl thing than a guy thing but I really hate deciding what to wear every day. Sometimes I wish we just had some kind of uniform to wear so that there would be no decision that would need to be made. It would be so simple.

The reality is that in the Christian life the decision about what to wear on a daily basis is a simple one. We are to put on Jesus Christ, and the only way we can "put on" Christ is to be "in" him. Our relationship to Christ is to be so intimate that we cannot imagine going through life without him. But the idea of putting on Christ is all encompassing. It's as if we wrap ourselves in a warm blanket of Christ and that he hugs and loves us and makes us feel secure, at the same time becoming a barrier to the things of this world which threaten to hurt us on a daily basis. When we wrap ourselves in him, he becomes the driving force for everything that we do. He helps us with the decisions of daily life and the big decisions that will drive our lives. He becomes a part of everything that we do, and provides us with a sense of security which we could never experience on our own.

Is it a big decision -- what to wear? Maybe it shouldn't be! Maybe we ought to just put on Christ!

Prayer

Lord, may I be wrapped in you today and sense your peace and your presence. Amen.
